Think Sex and the City -minus the sex. That’s how designer Andrew Bottecchia describes the iGirl model at Camrost Felcorp’s iLoft project. Mr. Bottecchia designed the suite with Anwar Mekhayech, both of The Design Agency. The 850-square-foot two-storey unit embraces its womanhood, with greylavender walls downstairs and an accent wall of purple in the upstairs bedroom. The colour palette is girly, the lines feminine and there are even photographs of flowers on the walls. It’s not a design that’s going to suit everyone’s tastes -but that was the point. “A lot of times when we do model suites, we’re trying to achieve a look that appeals to everybody -and that’s hard to do sometimes as a designer. Also, every project is always doing that,” Mr. Mekhayech says of iGirl, one of two new models at the site. “The idea here was, rather than trying to make every suite appeal to everyone, let’s just make them different and cool and funky in their own way.” Suites at iLoft range in size from 720 to 1,125 square feet and are priced from $374,900 to $501,900. The sales office is located on the fourth floor at 185 Legion Rd. N., Etobicoke. It’s open Monday to Thursday from noon to 6 p.m. and weekends from noon to 5 p.m. Call 416-251-8888 or visit iloft.ca for more information.
A take on the popular tripod-style standing lamp, this floor lamp from West Elm has four legs instead of three. “It’s a quad-pod,” Mr. Mekhayech says. The slender legs at the bottom of the chrome base help make the room feel more open, while balancing out the lamp’s oversized cream linen shade.
Even though this grey-lavender tweed sofa from Casalife was chosen for its feminine appeal, that doesn’t mean that men don’t like it, too. “We’ve had guys go through the space and say: ‘This is cool. Minus some of the accessories I kind of like it,’ ” Mr. Bottecchia says.
Is an oval more feminine than a circle? Mr. Bottecchia says it is, which is why he picked out this coffee table -with its oval tabletops -from Casalife. The glass tops (set on chrome cylinders and a glass base) swivel to create more or less table space depending on your needs.
Purple’s best friend, yellow, stops by for a visit -and an additional hit of colour amidst the purple reign -in this travel poster from Spain, purchased at Telegramme Prints. “This is a woman who travels the world,” Mr. Mekhayech explains.
This purple occasional chair is not only the perfect colour match to the bedroom’s accent wall, but its feminine curves and traditional style set the tone for the bedroom. “The curving of the back invites you to sit down, relax, read and drink your coffee,” Mr. Bottecchia says.
The white lacquer platform bed (purchased at Casalife) adds a little sheen to the space. Adorned with a pattern of magnolia blossoms, the Brian Gluckstein bedding from The Bay is fun and flirty.
